Letter 09/17/1883 - by Vincent van Gogh
Yesterday I found one of the most peculiar churchyards I have ever seen; imagine a patch of heath with a hedge of closely planted pine trees round it, so that you would think it was an ordinary pinewood. However, there is an entrance - a short path, and then you come to a number of graves overgrown with bent and heather, many of them marked by white posts on which there are names. I am sending you a sketch of the study I painted of it.
