Letter 10/01/1884 - by Vincent van Gogh
The last thing I did is a rather large study of a lane of polars with their yellow autumn foliage, where sun makes occasional bright patches on the fallen leaves on the ground,
alternating with the long shadonws cast by the trunks. At the end of the road, a little farmhouse with the blue sky above shining through the autumn leaves.
I believe that in a year spent painting a great deal and continuously, I will change my style of painting and of color quite a lot, and that I shall become more somber rather than lighter.
