Letter 07/19/1888 - by Vincent van Gogh
Many thanks for your letter, which gave me great pleasure, arriving just when I was still feeling exhausted by the sun and the strain of completing a rather large canvas.
I have a new drawing of a garden full of flowers, and also two painted studies of it.
You'll see from this sketch the subject of my new studies: there's one vertical and one horizontal canvas on the same subject, both size 30. I'm certain there's the subject
for a painting in this and in other studies I've done. In truth, I really can't tell if I shall ever produce pictures that are calm and quietly executed, for I feel it will always
be in fits and starts.
